Mixit Aotearoa Outreach (MAO) – Regional workshops

There is no better way to complete the final year of MAO project than by returning to two vibrant youth communities that have embraced the spirit of Mixit! As we prepare for our 2025 outreach regional visits, we reflect on the journey so far, celebrate the partnerships we have built and get excited about the future.

Since 2022, with generous funding from JR McKenzie Trust and The Tindall Foundation MAO project opened opportunities to build partnerships that contribute to the youth support sector across Aotearoa – in particular for organisations who work with a diversity of former refugee and migrant youth. The intention is to inspire and encourage local community groups through sharing our knowledge and experience developed over 19 years of supporting young people through the power of participation in creativity. So far MAO initiative has reached young people and youth workers across the country including Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, Ashburton, Dunedin and Invercargill.

Mixit Alumni co-facilitated workshops that were creative, energetic and designed to build confidence, leadership and connection. From new games to collaborative creative tasks, every workshop brought fresh tools that empowered the participants to express themselves and feel a strong sense of belonging. Not only that, we connected with regional organisations and national youth workers to build an ongoing network that is future focused.

We are thrilled to return to Invercargill and Ashburton in July to facilitate another round of 2-day workshops. Last year’s sessions were a huge success, full of laughter, energy and bold creativity. We had absolute fun being creative with the youth and we are excited to bring in new games and activities this year, designed to give them the opportunity to step up and shine.

Here is a collection of images from regional workshops over the three years.
