The Fledgling Trust
Mixit is an initiative of The Fledgling Trust, a charitable philanthropic Trust established in 2001. The founding trustees are Charmaine Barnett, who is also Chairperson, and her husband Roger Lampen, a prominent Auckland businessman.
The Trust is private, secular and has no affiliations to any other organisations or persons
The Trust was established to support the young people of New Zealand and in particular marginalised youth, to develop and realise their goals, potential, sense of self and to help them overcome obstacles that may hinder these objectives
The Trust has a strong core belief in the ability of the arts to transcend barriers of communication, social and racial differences and tends to support youth initiatives and projects with a strong arts base
The Trust believes creativity is a safe and powerful vehicle to unlock often deep problems and allow young people to express themselves so they can move forward positively with their lives, which in turn impacts positively on their families and wider community.
The Trust has supported a diverse range of projects including:
The Te Rakau Hua O Te Wao Tapu Trust Theatre Marae: for Maori youth at risk
Massive Youth Theatre
Touch Compass Dance Company: A dance company of dancers with mixed physical and mental abilities
Black Grace Dance Company Urban Youth Movement: A dance project for young Pacific Island and Maori youth.
